• Microsoft will retire classic storage accounts on August 31, 2024. To preserve the data in any classic storage accounts, you must migrate them to the Azure Resource Manager (ARM) deployment model by that date. After you migrate your account, all of the benefits of the Azure Resource Manager deployment model will be available for that account.
• Classic Storage Accounts do not have a hot and cold tier. The Cost of Classic Storage Accounts is approximately the cost of the Hot tier of a General Purpose V2 (GPV2) Storage Accounts. Thus if you migrate to an ARM GPV2 account using the Cool tier at the destination, you may save approximately 50% in terms of cost. You will also be prepared your Storage Accounts to continue to operate past the end of life (EOL) of the classic storage accounts.
