Everyone and their grandma is a prompt engineer apparently.
Everyone has that one cool trick to get the AI to produce better prompts.
At Midflip, we can just collaboratively combine our notes and ideas on the process.
Its hard to know whether one prompting strategy is better than another. Like did some guy just make this up? Why are these prompts better? What tests did you perform?
Regardless just the idea to prompt in these directions may improve your content. So perhaps these guides are good just to prompt you to prompt the AI. So hell throw them in here if you have more of them.
Better Prompting Techniques with creditability
This is about the most creditable prompting guide i have found. How I Won Singapore’s GPT-4 Prompt Engineering Competition | by Sheila Teo | Towards Data Science (medium.com)
It’s by someone who won a “prompt engineering competition” - yeah apparently that’s a thing now.
She suggests this framework when prompting.
Her example:
# CONTEXT # I want to advertise my company’s new product. My company’s name is Alpha and the product is called Beta, which is a new ultra-fast hairdryer.
# OBJECTIVE # Create a Facebook post for me, which aims to get people to click on the product link to purchase it.
# STYLE # Follow the writing style of successful companies that advertise similar products, such as Dyson.
# TONE # Persuasive
# AUDIENCE # My company’s audience profile on Facebook is typically the older generation. Tailor your post to target what this audience typically looks out for in hair products.
# RESPONSE # The Facebook post, kept concise yet impactful.
Here is my attempt - prompting for social media content creation. Add more prompting notes here if you got any good ones.
#CONTEXT#
We are working on creating content for [LinkedIn]. Each piece of content links to some other piece of content on my website. We want to funnel people from [LinkedIn] to my website.
website: [description of your website and service]
Process: [Creating this content together will involve three steps.
1st. find the valuable piece of information to be communicated.
2nd. How to communicate that piece of information.
-
Get the first yes. We want the reader to read further than the first sentence. The first sentence needs to hook.
We then need to display the information in a quick refined fashion that delivers value to the reader.
3rd. Connect this to our funnel.
#OBJECTIVE#
Our objective is to create successful social media posts that get people to visit my website. Your objective is to help me create this content.
#STYLE#
Follow the writing style of successful companies that advertise on social media. Sentences should be simple, active, and impactful.
#TONE#
Authoritative and persuasive.
#AUDIENCE#
We are looking to attract the interest of [list people]. The [younger] generation is more likely to use my product. Anyone who is in a transition period of their lives: [looking for a job, moving cities] are more likely to adopt new habits, so targeting such people is also advised.
# RESPONSE #
You are to act as a good assistant. Generally your roles will be to:
Brainstorm. In this case always present multiple well thought out ideas.
Refine: suggest alternative wording. In this case present what you think can be improved, then present your alternate wording.
-
Produce: Create the social media post in its entirety.
In all cases, keep your responses concise yet impactful.
It works pretty well, but like always the AI can really rabbit hole. Perhaps using separate prompts for each of the tasks [Brainstorm, refine, produce] might be better. My theory was giving it all of the context would allow it to come up with better recommendations… this did somewhat work. Once again the problem with prompting is I don’t have good data about one strategy working better then another.
Anyone know of any such data?
